SUNDAY’S 24-13 bonus-point win over Bucharest Wolves in the Amlin Challenge Cup was exactly what we set out to achieve.

We were really pleased to come home having claimed the full five points on offer.

There definitely should have been a few more tries from us and, although we played some good stuff, we let them back into the game.

Once they had got their tails up, they were difficult to stop — they are a big bunch of boys who work hard and do the simple things well.

We have learnt a few things about them and should have won by more in Romania — we will definitely be looking to put a much bigger score on them this weekend in the return leg.

That said, we won’t underestimate them as they gave us a bit of a scare by coming back into the game in Bucharest.

James Currie scored the all-important fourth try right at the end of our game with Wolves and he is a real talent.

He’s still very young, but he is strong and a good scrummager — he’s not stopped talking about his try yet though!

It is good we are able to get the younger boys like James involved and he has put his hand up for the number three jersey.

The European away trips are good as we are forced to spend a bit of extra-time together as a group.

You find yourself making conversation with people you wouldn’t normally and it’s good to get to know them a bit better. I’m not the best traveller but we were lucky enough to have a nice, comfortable coach and it was only a three-hour flight to Romania.

It is always fun having a few nights away as a group and it was good to spend some time together after the game.

We went to a karaoke bar and a few of the lads reckon they are now capable of winning next year’s X Factor.

In fact, a few of us — Andy Short, Jonny Arr, Tom Arscott, Danny Gray and I — have now formed a boy band on the back of our karaoke singing.

We’re called Wrong Direction and I can definitely see us getting a record deal!

Ideally, we don’t want any guys out injured and I know that very well myself, but it is more of a coincidence than anything else that several of our forwards are out at the same time.

Hopefully, the guys who are available now can stay fit until the other players recover.

It has been a tough season so far and you will always pick up injuries, but I have belief in the quality of players we have in the squad.

Everyone is desperate to be involved in the sold-out Leicester Tigers game at Sixways on December 27 as it will be our biggest match of the season so far.

As a professional player for Worcester Warriors, you want to be playing in front of packed crowds against teams like Leicester, who have been among the top three sides in Europe for more than a decade.
