WORCESTER Warriors’ six-try display overpowered Bedford Blues 42-12 to seal a fifth Greene King IPA Championship victory of the campaign.

Flanker Mat Gilbert bagged a brace of tries for Warriors, who were inspired by the fit-again fly-half Ryan Lamb.

Tom Biggs, Val Rapava Ruskin, skipper Gerrit-Jan van Velze and Max Stelling also crossed for the hosts.

Warriors led 14-5 at the interval, after a superb opening 12 minutes, to warm the Sixways crowd.

It wasn’t a vintage display from Dean Ryan’s men but they showed flashes of brilliance, with full-back Ben Howard prominent in attack, but yellow-carded in the second-half for a deliberate knock-on.

Warriors made a lively start and Stelling almost put Warriors ahead in the opening seconds after collecting Lamb’s cross-field kick.

Warriors remained on the front foot and deservedly broke the deadlock after three minutes.

Lamb, making an immediate impact on his return, delivered another accurate cross-field kick.

Biggs gathered and collected a return pass to sneak over the try-line in the left-hand corner and Lamb made no mistake with the conversion.

It got even better for Ryan’s men in the 12th minute.

Van Velze safely gathered a line-out and Val Rapava Ruskin was driven over. Lamb kicked the conversion to put Warriors in control.

Bedford grew in confidence and took advantage of sloppy defending to cross the whitewash in the 28th minute.

Scrum-half Darryl Veenendall caught Stelling out of position and darted through a gap.

Veenendall popped a pass to back-rower Joe Vandermolen who had the simple task to touch down.

Van Velze gave Warriors a dream start to the second period, notching their third try 40 seconds into the half.

The skipper finished off a sweeping move, involving Howard and Stelling after a break through midfield from prop Mike Daniels.

Lamb kicked the conversion to fire Warriors 21-5 ahead.

Stelling extended the hosts' advantage with Warriors’ fourth try, 15 minutes into the second period, and Lamb once again added the extras.

Gilbert was driven over for his first try soon afterwards, and Lamb converted, to put the result beyond doubt.

The outstanding Gilbert scored Warriors’ sixth try in the 76th minute and replacement fly-half Ignacio Mieres slotted the conversion.

But Blues didn’t give up and Dean Adamson sprinted away to score and Jake Sharp kicked the conversion.
