WORCESTER Warriors’ backline is starting to purr as they ran in six of the hosts’ seven tries in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Sixways.

Versatile back Ryan Mills gave another outstanding display at fly-half for Worcester and is nailing down the jersey in the run-up to the play-offs.

While Mills’ class has never been doubted since his arrival at Worcester, there were fears in some quarters about the former Gloucester man’s susceptibility to injury.

But the coaches have eased Mills into the side and he looks to be the golden ticket in unlocking Worcester’s potent back division.

Table-topping Warriors have now scored 27 tries in their last four matches in the Greene King IPA Championship – with 14 coming in the last two.

But a promotion bid can’t be built on attack - ing instincts alone and Worcester have con - ceded just four tries in their last four league clashes.

Ben Howard has been at the heart of the at - tacking action and his handling was spot on in the early stages, as Rotherham tested the full- back with high balls.

At times, it is easy to forget Howard is Worcester’s second-choice full-back, with Chris Pennell recovering from a minor leg problem.

Worcester have one of the best finishers in the league in Tom Biggs, while the power and continued growth of centre Max Stelling is clear to see.

The form of centre Andy Symons means he’s now one of the first names on the team-sheet and his unblemished record of seven conversions highlights his growing accuracy with the boot.

There will be the frustration that Warriors failed to score for the last 18 minutes and Rotherham finished brightly, grabbing the final try.

Worcester have now officially cemented their spot in the four-team end-of-season promotion showdown.

Another statistic which went largely unnoticed was that the victory gave Warriors a club-record 21st successive win at first-team level.

Warriors fell behind to a James McKinney penalty, before showing their potency.

Stelling dived over for Warriors’ opener from their first attack, after Howard had raced down the left, before Mills put away the centre. Symons slotted his first conversion.

McKinney then stuck a post with a penalty attempt before Mills off-loaded to Dean Hammond to score a converted try from a well- worked line-out drive.

Warriors struck again within seconds with the best try of the afternoon, Howard galloping over after a move spanning the length of the pitch involving Stelling and Biggs.

The hosts extended their lead before the break through Biggs, who collected Sam Bet - ty’s offload, and Symons’ conversion fired Warriors 28-3 ahead.

Mills then ghosted inside to set up skipper Gerrit-Jan van Velze for the first try of the second-half.

Mills was held up over the line soon afterwards and, from the resulting scrum, referee Ian Tempest awarded Warriors a penalty try.

Mills capped a fine display with Warriors’ seventh touchdown and Biggs went over soon afterwards, only for his effort to be ruled out.

Rotherham had the final word, Jack Preece was driven over and Tom Barrett slotted the conversion
