THE last week has certainly been an eventful one for Worcester Warriors with the news Richard Hill had lost his job as head coach.

It was all explained to us by Bill Bolsover on Tuesday and he gave us the reasons behind the decision. The lads were shocked, but they were completely professional and focused on preparing properly for the Harlequins game.

It happens in professional sport and it won’t be the last time a coach loses his job — we just regrouped as a squad and concentrated on the task in hand.

Obviously, it is a high-pressure job and I didn’t see it (Hill’s departure) coming, but you never know what might be around the corner. The decision has been made and we will get on with it.

Dean Ryan will be coming in as director of rugby and he will have a completely clean slate and it will be a fresh start for everyone at the club.

From what he did with Gloucester and listening to him speak on Sky Sports, it will be an exciting time and everyone will be wanting to impress him come pre-season. I have never played underneath him in the past, but it is something I am looking forward to.

Although we lost to Quins at Sixways on Saturday, I thought Chris Pennell really stood out — he had an outstanding game and made plenty of line-breaks, while Josh Drauniniu was on fire too.

The weather was nice for running rugby and it was quite an emotional day for some of the lads who were playing their final games at Sixways before leaving the club at the end of this season. It was a great game for the neutrals to watch.

All of the players who are leaving Warriors this season are great lads and good professionals, but that is the nature of the beast and players move on from clubs. Everyone has different reasons for moving on, but it will be sad to see them go.

We have now turned our attention to the final game of the season at London Welsh in a couple of weeks time. We will have a good training week with Nigel Redman and it would be good to finish the season on a high with an away victory at the Kassam Stadium.

After the Welsh game, we will then have a little break, before coming back for pre-season and there’s nothing I’d love more than to see this club moving a few places up the league table and competing for European qualification.

I thought we could have given that a go this season, but that has not been the case — that’s the way it is, though, and we have to keep moving forward.
