JOB-SEEKERS and people looking to re-train packed the Guildhall for another successful Worcester News careers fair.
The Worcester News Jobs & Careers Fair saw plenty of evidence of the economic downturn with many of the 14 stands seeing more than 100 people throughout yesterday.
Standholders were advertising vacancies and offering advice to people about how to make the most of their current skills or how to learn new ones.
Natasha Duke, marketing department co-ordinator at the Worcester College of Technology stand, said there was plenty of interest in its new 12-week intensive re-training courses.
She said: “We haven’t done this careers fair for about a year but we thought with the current economic climate it would be worth it and we’ve been rushed off our feet.”
Representatives of the University of Worcester, which announced multi-million pound development plans earlier this week, were also pleased with the turnout.
David Gommersall, university spokesman, said: “More than ever, I think Worcester is getting recognition for its schools, colleges and university.”
Chief Petty Officer Ray Harris, Royal Navy area recruiter, said: “We’ve seen about 150 people. Some were schoolleavers but also one person who had been made redundant was looking at her options.”
Designer Mike Snook, of Shrawley, near Worcester, was one of the many visitors looking for job opportunities.
He said: “I’m looking to see if there’s anything out there for which I can use my skills.”
