Beverley’s back with a song - and a book

BEVERLEY Craven has just finished writing a book. The seven-year work-in-progress started life as a diary but, with encouragement from her family, the award-winning singer/songwriter ended up penning an autobiography.

"I'm not going to go look for a publisher," she said.

"I might find a local printer and then sell a few copies at gigs. I'm not sure. Do you think anyone would buy it?"

Beverley is surprisingly self-effacing. In 1992, she took Best British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards. After her record Promise Me reached number three in the UK chart she found herself propelled to the dizzy heights of the music business or, as she puts it: "I've done the corporation thing.

"It's not really me. I think being creative and the music business are very much like oil and water. They are different beasts."

Beverley took a break from the industry to be a mum to her three girls. But now she is back on the road.

"Motherhood is so overwhelming, so all consuming. I had no interest in sitting in front of the piano for a long time. I completely lost that vibe, but now it's back and I'm doing these gigs, going out and giving it my best.

"I thought I was going to be nervous after such a long break but I think I was just really excited. I really like the smaller venues. I've done all the big ones."
