| Convicts inspire unusual tale | | 8:07am Friday 2nd May 2008 | | IN 1788 a group of criminals serving time in Australia staged a play. Two hundred years later, an English company performing the same play - George Farquhar's The Recruiting Officer - came across the extraordinary story of murderers and thieves-turned-actors and, inspired by their tale, wrote a play about their play. |

 | Dramatic story of forbidden love and heartache | | 9:25am Fri 18 Apr 08 | | RAW, distressing, steely and relentless. According to the critics, David Grindley's revival of Blackbird, at Malvern next month, has a slow-burning intensity that nags away in the memory like the mental equivalent of a toothache.'
David Harrower's drama has haunted audiences since it premiered in 2005. The unsettling story, emotional in the real sense of the word, follows a 27-year-old woman, Una, who tracks down a man from her past. Fifteen years ago Una, then 12, and Ray, then 40, had an affair which ended with Ray abandoning her in a hotel. For his crime, Ray went to prison and has since attempted to rebuild his life. What shocks most is the idea that this was a love affair, rather than predatory paedophilia. |

To be honest, deep in my heart, I didn't think she was going to win but nothing prepared me for her being the first to go. |

| CENTRE STAGE with Chris Jaeger of Worcester Live | | 9:31am Friday 21st March 2008 | | I went to Theatre Hafren in Newtown, Powys to see the Welsh final of the Welsh Young Farmers' entertainment competition. I knew what I was going to get, and I was in no way disappointed. As I pulled up to the theatre there was the familiar sight of loads of horse boxes and livestock wagons that had brought all the scenery for the various teams. Unusual but effective. |
