GREAT Witley Operatic Society is putting on an English operetta double bill.

The group will perform Trial by Jury and the Sorcerer when they return to Worcester's Swan Theatre in April.

For the past two years, the group has worked with Andrew Potter of Birmingham's School of Acting to put on highly innovative productions of the Mikado and Merry England.

This year, they tackle more traditional but equally adored Gilbert and Sullivan works.

Trial By Jury is a one-act operetta and a satire on the legal system. It will be complemented by The Sorcerer, a similarly short play but one involving magic spells and love potions poured from a giant teapot.

Producing the double bill is Aileen Haden, while stepping into the role of musical director is Penny Vere, who has worked with Malvern Light Opera and Malvern Choral Society.

Making their debut with GWOS will be singers Lynsey Squair and Richard Hulbert.

Trial by Jury and the Sorcerer will run at the Swan from Tuesday, April 8 to Saturday, April 12.

For tickets, call the Worcester Live box office on 01905 611427.
