AMATEUR actors in Pershore are brushing up on their Shakespeare.

Members of the Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS) are in rehearsal for their production of Kiss Me Kate, being staged in full colour and costume at Number 8 Community Arts Centre, Pershore High Street, in June 2008.

Billed as a "must not be missed show", Kiss Me Kate revolves around a performance of The Taming of the Shrew.

But as the leading lady plays opposite her ex-husband, who is also the director, sparks begin to fly.

The play within a play format, humour and songs of Cole Porter have made the play a hit since it opened in 1948 and won the first Tony Award for Best Musical in 1949.

"The cast are working so hard to make the show a great success and a thoroughly entertaining evening," said PODS director Sue Price.

"It promises to be yet another memorable sell- out."

Tickets, priced £10 to £12, are available in advance from the Number 8 box office on 01386 555488 or on the door subject to availability.
