Lecture in aid of Red Cross work. Miss Thurstan spoke of her experiences of Red Cross work in Belgium and Russia, being helped by some capital slides showing the difficulties of nursing and the devastation of the countries. She spoke of there being some 29,000 wounded at Lodz, for whom they had insufficient food, and whom they could not transport because part of the line was held by the enemy. Here they worked incessantly, until at any short respite they slept whilst standing. She was struck by a piece of shrapnel and in addition became ill. It was impossible to realise the necessity there was for every effort to be made to end the slaughter and pillage. She appealed for a large collection in aid of funds being collected for the Serbian hospitals.
