Supposed suicide at Evesham
The dead body of Alexander Edwin Haines, a labourer, aged about 37, and a native of Cow Honeybourne, who had recently been residing at Mr C Muhairo's restaurant in the Waterside, Evesham, was found in the one of the bedrooms of the restaurant. He had been discharged from his position as porter at Evesham Union and was depressed. A bottle labelled cyanide of potassium and also a bottle of cyanidium of potassium were found in the room, and death is stated to be caused by poison.

Deserters - at the Police Court on Saturday, Walter Frank Taylor and Evan John Chapman were brought up in custody on a change of being deserters from His Majesty's Army Service Corps. Superintendent Groves stated that both prisoners surrendered themselves the previous evening. They were remanded to await an escort.
