MALVERN Hills Repair Cafe Will be under new management in the New Year.

After four years, founders Jan and Chris Dyer are to bow out from running the cafe in order to pursue other interests. The formal handover to the new all-volunteer management team, led by Colin Walls, will take place at the AGM after the repair cafe session on Saturday, December 17.

Since opening in December 2012, the repair cafe has grown to an impressive team of 33 volunteers drawn from Malvern’s practical and technical community, and over 2,000 customers have visited, bringing more than 2,500 personal possessions for advice or fixing.

It has received local funding support from Malvern Town Council and Waitrose Community Matters and in 2015 was awarded Big Lottery funding, which supported the opening of four new repair cafes in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

This year, the cafe was the judges’ choice in the Cleaner and Greener category of the Our Malvern Hills Community Awards 2016.

Mr and Mrs Dyer said: “We were very pleased to receive this reward on behalf of our repairers and volunteers as they were the ones who actually earned it. We feel confident that they will continue to gain this sort of recognition in the future."

The cafe will be open from 10am to 1pm at the Quaker Meeting House, Orchard Road, Great Malvern.
