I am grateful for the opportunity to offer my sincere condolences to Doreen's family and many, many devoted friends. You have lost a very special lady who it was my privilege to meet in the later years of her life.
I met Doreen through researching my family tree. She graciously agreed to meet me when I contacted her out of the blue and we discovered a shared ancestor in her grandfather, Charles Priday of the Castle Line Steamers who was also my 3xgreat grandfather. This made Doreen my 1st cousin 3 times removed.
She made both me and my family so welcome in her home and her life and she shared many wonderful stories and photographs which enriched my research immeasurably.
However more importantly she enriched my life by allowing me to get to know her and to share time with her. I quickly felt like I had known her for ever.
She was a truly gracious lady and the affection that I witnessed she inspired in her family and many friends was truly inspiring and wonderful to see. There is no doubt that she was loved and adored and I can totally understand why.
I will miss her, her lovely smile, her infectious laugh and her kind and generous nature. When I took my new granddaughter to meet her it was so special to see her holding her 1st cousin 5 times removed and she just loved it.
They really did break the mould when Doreen was born and I will be eternally grateful for the opportunity I had of spending time with her and getting to know her.
I pray that she will now rest in eternal peace reunited in love with her beloved husband John.
