A FILM buff has created a large scale model of the Bridge on the River Kwai in his back garden - but it is too big for him to keep.

It took six days, 900 feet of bamboo and thousands of screws for Tarquin Shaw-Young to create the giant model at his home in Barnards Green, Malvern.

The former actor and casting agent is now searching for a new home for the model which he created for immersive film nights with his friends.

He has previously built to scale recreations of films including Great Escape, Zulu and Master and Commander.

Mr Shaw-Young called it a 'labour of love' saying: "I do keep most of the models but the Bridge model is a bit of a beast so I can't really store it.

Worcester News:

"They vary in size but because I wanted to 'blow up' the Kwai Bridge, just a simulated explosion, I needed something that would look right.

"They do tend to be quite big but this takes over the entire garden.

"It was one of those things I drew and put together and from the scale it became evident it wasn't going to be a little Hornby set."

The 1957 film Bridge on the River Kwai starred William Holden and Alec Guinness and tells the story of British POWs forced to build a railway bridge across the river Kwai for their Japanese captors.

For the film night, Mr Shaw-Taylor and guests dressed up, spoke lines from the film and whistled the Colonel Bogey March from the film as well as enjoyed Japanese whisky and beer.

As well as holding film night at his home he has also held immersive film nights at church halls for movies including Withnail and I and Cinema Paradiso.

A new home is still being sought for the large scale Bridge on the River Kwai model which Mr Shaw-Young has put on Facebook Marketplace.

He added: "I have had quite a lot of people interested in it and a few messages and queries about it."
