The final stage of an Open Call to Worcestershire creatives for artwork and poetry is a free entry showcase exhibition and event at Yew Trees Artist Studios and Bevere Gallery on the edge of Worcester.

The exhibition can be seen throughout the site signposted with ‘Enough to See’ header boards tomorrow (Saturday, June 10) and Tuesday June 13 to Saturday June 17.

Visitors will find artwork and writing from the open call as well as work by the five resident artists and five Worcestershire Poets Laureate on display.

To end the showcase, there will be a celebration event, readings and prize-giving on June 17 from 12pm to 4pm.

This collaborative project between Worcestershire LitFest, Yew Trees Artist Studios and Bevere Gallery is supported and sponsored by The Arts Society Worcester.

Maggie Keeble, chairperson of The Arts Society (TAS) Worcester, said: “TAS Worcester is delighted to have been asked to sponsor this inspiring event.

"As supporters and appreciators of the arts we are keen to encourage and engage with the local community of artists and this has been a perfect opportunity.

"We have been very impressed by the quality of the entries and fascinated by the various interpretations of the theme.”

The project developed in three stages:

In January/February 2023 the five Yew Trees artists and five Worcestershire poet laureate's created artwork and writing in response to the theme: ‘Enough to see… but not enough to see by’ with their work displayed in the artist studios at Bevere Gallery from the end of February.

The open call was launched on March 5 for Worcestershire creatives to respond either directly to the theme or to the exemplar artworks/writing taking their inspiration from these works. Organisers say that responses have been "many and varied" including a wide range of 2D artwork, ceramics, fused glass, felted sculpture, poems, poetry-films and a piece for harp.

The open call closed on April 23 and images of the artwork/writing were submitted for judging.

The final stage is the showcase exhibition and event. The open call entries for artwork have been judged by The Arts Society Worcester and those for poetry/writing by Emily Rose Galvin, the former Staffordshire poet laureate.

Prize winners will be marked next to their work. All prizes have been funded by The Arts Society Worcester.

An anthology of writing and artwork will also be produced to mark the event – visitors should look for the “A” next to the work to see which pieces have been selected for inclusion.

As well as the showcase exhibition and event, visitors can see inside the resident artists’ studios, view stunning collections of ceramics, garden art and jewellery, and enjoy homemade cake and other goodies from the popular café. Free parking and free admission to site.
