TWO captivating opera performances will be beamed live to Vue cinema from either side of the Atlantic.

The Friar Street picturehouse will broadcast a performance of the dark tragedy of Rigoletto from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York tomorrow (Saturday, February 16), which has been updated to 1960 and set in Las Vegas.

It revolves around the womanising Duke of Mantua, his tragic side-kick Rigoletto, and Rigoletto's beautiful daughter Gilda.

This is followed by Eugene Onegin on Wednesday, February 20 at 7.15pm, which tells the tale of a selfish hero who lives to regret his rejection of a young woman's love and his careless incitement of a fatal duel with his best friend.
