WORCESTER Gilbert and Sullivan Society will be returning to Ledbury to perform their new production The Gondoliers.

The impoverished Duke and Duchess of Plaza-Toro come to Venice in search of the heir to the throne of Barataria who was inconveniently mislaid at birth but betrothed to their daughter.

The most likely candidates are two handsome gondoliers, far more interested in parties than politics and, what's more, just married.

It takes the help of the nursemaid to unravel the knots in this particularly twisty tale.

These Gilbert and Sullivan works have enjoyed broad and enduring international success for well over a century. Known as the Savoy Operas, they introduced innovations in content and form that directly influenced the musical theatre of the 20th century.

The society will be performing at The Market Theatre from Thursday, June 4 to Saturday, June 6.

Performances are at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday.

Tickets cost £12 or students £6 and are available from The Master’s House, St Katherine’s car park on Monday, Thursday and Friday between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Tuesdays between 9.30am and 6pm and Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm.
