A WICKED snow queen turned a Worcestershire museum into her ice palace during some enchanting festive activities.

Youngsters were captivated by the Snow Queen, Jack Frost and their life-like wolf Maugrim, who wished to make sure it was always winter and never Christmas at the Worcestershire County Museum in Hartlebury.

Husband and wife team Miles and Ali Chambers, of Malvern-based Arts Lab, who played the characters, brought to life the popular children’s book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis with their creative, interactive storytelling.

Mrs Chambers, the Snow Queen, said she kept offering children Turkish Delight to reveal the location of Santa’s winter wonderland grotto but they all refused.

She said: “We take the children through the wardrobe and into Narnia. We walk through the building and pretend we are taking over Hartlebury and turning it into ice and we try and try and get the children to tell us where Father Christmas is but they are very loyal to Santa.

"We have tried to bribe them with Turkish Delight but they say it tastes of soap.”

Other highlights included Foxdell Carriages, based in Bromsgrove, offering rides around the grounds, a real blacksmith’s forge, choirs, handbell ringing and a chance to write to Father Christmas in the Victorian schoolroom or visit him in his grotto, where he was offering gifts and other children’s activities.

A similar range of activities will be on offer at the museum this weekend.
