A HILLSIDE festival is aiming to reach greater heights as it continues to expand.

Despite facing muddy conditions in 2012 the organisers of West Fest are adding a theatre and performing arts stage to their annual celebration on West Malvern playing fields to offer revellers more choice.

Exactly what entertainment will feature is still in the planning process but anything from spoken word to acting and dance could compliment the music on the main and acoustic stages.

Alan Hoida, who forms part of the organising committee said: “We hope to be bigger and better. It’s a question of finding things for people to come for and give them something fresh.”

The festival, which promotes, encourages and showcases musicians, artists, craftspeople and performers from the local community, will take place on Saturday, July 6 between 11am and 10pm.

Alan also thinks there is plenty of scope for the local festival scene to go from strength to strength even though larger attractions like The Big Chill won’t be returning this year.

“We are going strong. Malvern has always been very good for musicians and has always had that tradition - long may it continue.”

Artists can apply for a slot to perform at this year’s festival, with the likes of This Wicked Tongue, The May Dolls and The Sarah Warren Band appearing at the last event.
