THOUSANDS of teenagers are being invited to a free roadshow promoting apprenticeships in Worcestershire.

More than 40 employers, colleges and training providers will be on hand to offer advice and support at the Real Apprentice showcases at Worcester Warriors Sixways Stadium on Monday, and the Abbey Stadium, Redditch, on Wednesday, February 13, from 1pm - 7pm.

Potential apprentices in school years 10 to 13 will have the chance to hear from, and talk to major employers, training providers and successful apprentices who have gone from strength to strength since learning their trades as well as take part in bitesized activity sessions.

Aamir Kayani, employment and skills manager for Worcestershire County Council, said: “We are extremely delighted with last year’s success and the efforts of our partners to raise the numbers and profile of apprenticeships among young people.

“Two events held during 2012 were a resounding success as more than 800 young people with their parents and guardian attended. One of the council’s priorities is ensuring that we build the current and future workforce for the growth of our economy fulfilling the needs of existing and emerging businesses.”

Mike Ashton, chief executive of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce and a former chemical plant operator apprentice, said: “The number of apprenticeships and apprentices is increasing year on year. The scheme also creates a workforce for the future.”
