AFTER 20 years living at Regent Care Home in Worcester, 91-year-old Kathleen Hobro has truly come to call it home.

Mrs Hobro first moved into the Sanctuary Care-run home in St John’s on April 10, 1993, after the death of her beloved husband Dennis.

Originally from Broadwas, Herefordshire, she married Dennis, a Worcester milkman, in 1948 and began her lifelong association with the Faithful City.

The couple first lived in Lower Broadheath, near Worcester, before moving to Ombersley Road, Worcester.

Mrs Hobro’s working life was spent in the city itself. During the war she worked at the Royal Ordnance Factory in Blackpole, cycling there every day to make bullet shells, before becoming a window dresser at Woolworths in the High Street. She later used her seamstress skills to build her own glove business.

Mrs Hobro still enjoys a walk around the city centre to see how things have changed. She said: “It’s still the same lovely city, especially the walk down by the river. The main thing that’s changed is the high street – you wouldn’t recognise any of the shops from my younger days.”

Staff, fellow residents and her loved ones threw her a special party on Wednesday to celebrate her anniversary.

“Regent is truly my home. I’ve seen it change in so many ways, and staff come and go, but what has stayed the same is the excellent quality of care,” she said.

Home manager Andrew Green said: “We’re delighted to celebrate Kath’s 20th anniversary here and thrilled that all the years she has spent with us have been really happy for her.”
