A DOTING father whose body hair has earned him a nickname from his mates is about to discover that fund-raising is not always a smooth ride.

Chris ‘Cheetah’ Jenkins, who is nick-named after Tarzan’s faithful chimpanzee companion in classic movies, will be gritting his teeth when he undergoes a full body wax at Elvissa Beauty, Barbourne, Worcester, on Saturday.

It will be a case of no pain, no gain for the Claines, Worcester, resident as friends and family have sponsored the 49-year-old to have his extensive body hair removed to help raise money for his daughter Kerry to go to Namibia for a year to teach. The 18-year-old Droitwich High School student has undergone a gruelling selection process in the Isle of Coll, Scotland, to be selected by educational charity Project Trust to work with underpriviledged children.

But she must now raise £5,400 to fund the August trip and has been putting the money she earns part time as a waitress at the Honey Bee, in Doverdale, near Droitwich, to pay for vaccinations and visas.

“Someone said why don’t I shave my beard off but I thought I needed to do something more dramatic to get people to sponsor me,” said Mr Jenkins, who was given his cheeky chimpanzee moniker by former work colleagues.

Miss Jenkins said she was very proud of her father for offering to have his body hair stripped off but was surprised he offered to do such a painful task.

She said: “I will definitely be holding his hand when he has it done. When he first mentioned it I laughed because I thought he would never do that, he is not brave enough. But I am so grateful and I can’t believe how much he has raised for me.”

Miss Jenkins, her mother Jo and other family members will also be taking part in the 21-mile St Richard’s Hospice Waterways Walk on July 7.
