ALMOST 30 new homes could be built on a Worcester estate.

Worcester Community Housing is behind two separate applications in Warndon featuring a mix of houses, bungalows and flats.

The larger scheme is off Ullswater Close and, if approved, would feature 15 houses, a bungalow and two flats.

The houses would be a mix of two and three-bedroomed units.

In addition, 21 car parking spaces would be provided for those living in the new homes, while WCH says a further 13 parking spots will be provided in the immediate area for existing residents “to prevent inappropriate parking caused by a lack of provision”.

Just up the road, WCH wants to build another 10 homes off Brookthorpe Close.

These would consist of four houses, four apartments and two bungalows. According to planning documents the homes would be provided by WCH for affordable rent which is in “high demand”.

A public consultation was held in February, when residents had the chance to view the plans.

A petition signed by 25 people was subsequently signed in opposition to the possible loss of car parking in the area.

Local councillor Alan Amos said he couldn’t say too much about the applications as he’s a member of the planning committee but admitted there is a big demand for social housing in the city.

“There is an acknowledged desperate need for more social housing,” he said.

“Worcester Community Housing is very good and consults existing residents as soon as they can to try to resolve issues before they come to committee.

“General issues with ‘infill’ sites such as these can be overlooking, access and the need for or loss of car parking.”

However, WCH says “significant additional car parking” will be included in the Brookthorpe Close scheme.

“The location of the parking has been designed to minimise its impact on the street scene,” it says in documents submitted to Worcester City Council.

WCH told your Worcester News it didn’t want to comment until a decision on the applications had been made, which is likely to be August or September.
