Clive worked at a number of Worcestershire schools before becoming headteacher of Pershore High School in September 2002. He was winner of the West Midlands Teaching Award for School Leadership in 2000 and is now in his 34th year of teaching.

He was made a Fellow of the University of Worcester in September 2012 and is a past chairman of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust's Community Expert Panel, a facilitator on its Community Leadership Programme and, since 2011, has been a Local Leader in Education.

He has written two books on the history of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and one on his father, Crumpled Bits of Paper.

He has recently edited a book to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Pershore High School, and looks forward to continuing to lead a school that is proud of its history and confident in its future.

The school’s ethos

  •  Inclusion and equality of opportunity and the development of all youngsters as independent learners;
  • The development of the whole person into youngsters with character, who are kind and considerate, optimistic, responsible and resilient;
  • The preparation of youngsters to become positive members of society;
  • High aspirations and value achievement at all levels;
  • The history of our school; l Working with parents;
  • All staff for the contributions they make to our school.

Our vision

To be at heart of our community, working with all partner schools to improve the health, well-being, engagement and attainment of all.

How does the school cater for its pupils’ needs?

The school caters for its pupils’ needs in a variety of ways. We have staff who are responsible for catering for the needs of gifted and talented pupils, and those in receipt of the Pupil Premium.

Our special needs centre, the Hampton Centre, caters for young people with specific learning needs, and we are commissioned by the local authority to run a hugely successful Mainstream Autism Base. To cater for the broader needs of young people, we provide an impressive range of extension and extra curricular activities, as outlined in the Review of the Year for 2012-13.

Two years ago we introduced a vertical tutoring system that we believe is further improving the quality of our pastoral support as it becomes increasingly embedded into our practices.

Awards and achievements

Until the government removed all such designations from all schools nationally, Pershore High School was a technology college and training school, but these areas remain central to our work.

We became an academy in July 2011 and we are recognised for our excellent partnership work on teacher training with the University of Worcester.

We are a holder of the International School Award in recognition of our close links with European, African and now Chinese schools.

We also attained Artsmark Gold and Sportsmark awards, as well as a Leading Aspect award, and have the Worcestershire County Council Effective Practice kitemark.

The future

Our major concern will always be to strive to provide the best for all of our students, both in the classroom and beyond. As with all schools therefore our major focus is upon teaching and learning. In addition to this, current projects include: l Further developing the school site by submitting a bid to build new accommodation for humanities, modern languages and art; l Prepare for the impact upon the school of the building of a significant number of new houses in the school catchment area over the next five years; l To further improve links with businesses in order to provide enterprise opportunities for students; l To work with other schools and providers in Wychavon to deliver more effective 0 to 19 ‘Early Help’ provision; l To participate in and contribute to the work of the national Beauchamp Group in developing students as leaders of learning; l Continuing and strengthening international links with impact on the curriculum.
