A VERY British event will turn into a very different experience at Worcester’s Commandery tonight.

The venue, in Sidbury, will host a special, interactive murder mystery evening, called A Very British Murder, from 6pm.

The event is being held as part of the Worcester Festival.

A spokesman for the event said guests could expect a challenging evening.

“A very British murder has happened at the Commandery and we need you to help solve it,” he said.

“Set in the stunning grounds of one of Worcester’s finest hidden gems, come along and be entertained with a superb interactive murder mystery that will test your detective skills and challenge your perceptions.”

Tickets for the night cost £20, which includes a glass of champagne on arrival, a pig roast and strawberries and cream. But the production is not suitable for children under the age of 10.

For those not quite up to a night of murder and intrigue, an afternoon concert by classical pianist Harriet Amos could be the order of the day. The recently qualified classical pianist, who graduated from Newcastle University in July, returns to Huntingdon Hall having performed there during the 2009 Worcester Festival.

Her programme is set to take listeners on a journey through three centuries of piano music from the Baroque era to the engaging and problematic innovation of modernism.

She will be playing pieces by composers such as Bach, Haydn, Schubert and Debussy.

Tickets for the show cost £4.

Meanwhile, a landmark event in the history of Worcester will be covered during a special talk at Worcester Cathedral.

Beginning at 11am, Howard Robinson will host a talk on Oliver Cromwell and the Battle of Worcester.

The talk will include a brief resume of Cromwell’s life and background, the lead-up to the Battle of Worcester, which happened on September 3, 1651, strategies used on the battlefield and the aftermath of the conflict.

The talk is set to last about an hour, allowing for questions.

Tickets, costing £5, may be available on the door.
