AN entrepreneur who received a lashing from the forked tongues of the infamous TV dragons has vowed to continue in his bid to prove the idea identifiers wrong.

Malcolm Victory, of Malvern Wells, appeared on TV screens across the nations during last Sunday night’s episode of BBC show, Dragon’s Den.

Mr Victory was there to showcase his invention, the Rotaire Dryline, a cover for rotary washing lines which protects washing from rain and allows year-round drying.

But the Dryline did not wash with the dragons, with one, Kelly Hoppen, calling it an “eyesore” and south west-based hospitality guru Deborah Meaden branding the design “fundamentally flawed”.

However, despite their harsh words, Mr Victory is looking on the bright side, saying he is delighted to have shown Rotaire to millions of viewers who do their own washing.

And he said since his moment in the spotlight, he has been bombarded with supportive e-mails and tweets. “A lot of them are saying that the dragons are clearly people who don’t do their own laundry, and that they made the wrong decision,” he said.

“Although it would have been good to get funding, I got the Dryline in front of ‘x’ million viewers.”

Mr Victory is now looking for funding to progress the Dryline and is launching a crowdfunding bid on Kickstarter.com to try and get the product into export markets. The funding offer will run throughout August and is under the name 1% Studio at http://kck.st/1b6KRlc.

The Rotaire Dryline won the 2012 Prime Award for senior entrepreneur and best product from the Princes’ Initiative for Mature Enterprise and Sage.

Mr Victory is a member of the business networking service FinditinWorcestershire. He is happy to talk to other entrepreneurs about his experience on the programme and says that if you have an idea it’s definitely worth applying to the show.
