A MUM and dad from Worcester were so touched by the story of abandoned baby Joseph they have teamed up with a city centre art gallery to raise money for him.

Kate and Jay Benstead, parents of six-month-old Charlie, run Leaff Design and have teamed up with Popi Pribojac of Worcester’s mangojuice gallery to raise money for the boy, who was found wrapped in a bag on the doorstep of a house in Columbia Drive, Lower Wick, Worcester, in July at just 24 hours old.

The gallery will be offering new baby cards made by the company, with all proceeds going into a savings account that was opened for baby Joseph after he was found.

Mrs Benstead, aged 29, said she and her husband had been touched by reports in your Worcester News and felt they had to do something.

“The story really hit a nerve with us having just had a baby boy ourselves,”

she said. “Everyone feels part of the story because they can really relate to it.

“The woman who found him said she wanted to look after him and that was my instinct too. This is a way of doing that.”

The couple have been running their company for about three years and the cards, which are blank inside, are available in blue or pink at £2 each or £10 for a pack of 10.

Mrs Benstead said she also hoped to raise awareness of the gallery, which offers a range of arts and crafts from across the UK. “We’ve got a good relationship with Popi,” she said. “This shop is a little gem in Worcester and we really hope she gets more business from it.”

Mr Benstead, 29, said: “It’s not about the business. All the money goes to the fund, not just a percentage.”

Baby Joseph is now with a foster carer and last week West Mercia Police announced they believed they had found his mother after arresting a Worcester woman and a man, both in their 30s, on suspicion of child neglect. Both have been released on bail.
