BUDDING bakers in Brou-ghton Hackett got busy creating some culinary delights to impress the experts in the village’s own Bake Off.

Inspired by the TV show, the Great British Bake Off, 45 residents made their own delicious cakes and presented them to chefs Josh Giles and his father Jason, from the March Hare pub in the village near Worcester.

The event is one of a number of events in a fund-raising campaign to fund repairs at St Leonard’s church.

Michelle Wyllie, part of the organising committee, said: “We were staggered at the number of entries and really pleased that so many people in the village got baking for the church. “We had a great afternoon trying all the wonderful cakes once the judging was over and raised over £200 for the church.”

Josh Giles, who is currently working at Michelin-starred Simpsons Restaurant in Bir-mingham added: “I know how Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry feel now, it’s very tricky choosing a winner from so many great cakes.

“I was very impressed with all the entries and amazed at what some of the children had produced. Trying 45 cakes in an hour was quite a task.”

The winner of the ladies competition, Marion Capell, won a cake decorating course donated by Cakes by Karen in Worcester and the winning man, Nick Capell, won an afternoon tea for two at Boston Tea Party, also in Worcester.

The village is now looking forward to its next fundraiser – a harvest supper – tomorrow. For more information visit broughtonhackett.com
