MORE than 500 people have signed up to do their bit in the fight against cancer at an event in Worcester next week.

Cancer Research UK’s new event, Race for Life Twilight, takes place for the first time in Worcester at Pitchcroft racecourse on Friday, October 18.

And while fund-raisers are hailing the landmark number of entries, they are still urging more women to sign up for the 5km evening event.

The new event, a partner fund-raiser for the popular Race for Life, is a non-competitive walk or run and women of all ages, shapes and sizes can sign up and raise crucial funds to help beat more than 200 types of cancer.

Participants can walk, run or even dance the route, which will be lit up.

Kelly Rumble, event manager for Race for Life in Worcester, said: “We’re over the moon that 500 women and girls have already chosen to step out after dark with us this October for our exciting new evening event.

“Together, they will help us to create a truly fantastic atmosphere on the night.

“But the battle against cancer never stops. With just over a week to go and places still to fill, we need even more local women to join us for an inspirational evening of fundraising under the stars.”

She said taking part in Race for Life Twilight would raise vital cash to fund life-saving research.

“Our evening events show we’re working day and night to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured,” she said.

“Sign up for Race for Life Twilight today and help make sure the sun sets on cancer for good.”

Cancer Research UK receives no government funding for its ground-breaking research, so money raised through events like Race for Life Twilight are crucial to the pioneering work of doctors, nurses and scientists who are fighting cancer.
