A SHOP left vacant when a popular trader retired after 45 years is set to reopen.
When Amy Thawley decided to retire at the age of 94, it left her well-known store in Tagwell Road, Witton, Droitwich, vacant.
The popular pensioner had been selling ladies fashion, wool and haberdashery since 1967.
She shut the doors of the shop, which was called Amy, following a farewell party with family, friends and customers. Now, exactly one year on, the store is set to be used once again after Robin Cavanagh opened a new hair salon and art gallery.
It is a move that could also breathe new life into the small area of shops at the corner of Tagwell Road and Worcester Road.
Mr Cavanagh said: “I have a very good hairdressing business with a fabulous clientelle. Most of them I have been looking after for more than 25 years and they are very loyal to me. I will also eventually open up the first floor of the shop to exhibit my artwork.
“I have been doing contemporary artwork for 10 years and have supplied top restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and homes. I have also given some of the proceeds from my sales of artwork to support many local charities.”
