A TEENAGER was assaulted and had his mobile phone stolen in a robbery in Worcester city centre.

The 18-year-old was walking home from work at about 10.30pm on Tuesday when he was robbed by two men at the junction of Pump Street and The Shambles.

As he was using his phone to send a text, he was grabbed from behind by a black man. A second man, who was white and riding a BMX bike, punched him to the side of the face and they took his phone from him.

There was a third man present, who was also white, who did not take part in the robbery directly but made off with the other two towards City Walls Road.

All three men were described as being in their late teens or early 30s and wearing dark clothing with hooded tops.

Detective Constable Jason Maiden of Worcester CID said: “We are doing all we can to find these three men, including reviewing CCTV from across the city centre.

“We understand there were a few people about in the city centre on Tuesday. I would like to appeal to anyone who saw the robbery take place or saw this group of young men, one on a BMX, around the city centre to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call DC Maiden on the non-emergency police number 101.
