MOURNERS packed a Droitwich church to say a final farewell to a teenager killed in a car crash.

The life of Martyn Pickering was celebrated at St Nicholas Church by 112 mourners.

Martyn was one of four teenagers killed in a crash on the A449 Kidderminster to Worcester road on Sunday, December 10.

Yesterday his coffin arrived at the church in Ombersley Road in a horse-drawn hearse.

The congregation heard how the 18-year-old, of Little Hill, Droitwich, was a "music lover" and would wake up each day listening to the radio or playing a CD.

The Rev Rita Holden, who conducted the service, paid tribute to his popularity by saying a book of remembrance had stretched to 24 pages long.

"We are here to remember his life and celebrate it," she said. "So many people have signed this book to remember him and that shows how popular he was.

"It's been said to me that the first thing he would do in the morning is either put the radio on or play a CD - he was a great lover of music."

Tributes were also read out by Joanna and David Pickering, Martyn's parents, who spoke of their love for their son.

The family had selected two songs to play during the service - Days Of Our Lives' by Queen and Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler.

The congregation was offered the chance to make a contribution to the church after prayers.

Martyn was driving a Rover 220 when it hit a tree near Ombersley, killing himself and his three friends, passengers Joanne Bibby, aged 17, of Bearcroft Avenue, Warndon, Worcester, Stephanie Goodall, 16, of Burleigh Road, Dines Green, Worcester, and Kyle Gadsby, 18, of Valley Way, Droitwich.

Joanne's funeral is at 1pm today at Worcester Crematorium and Stephanie's tomorrow at St Mary's Church, Kempsey, near Worcester.

The funeral for Kyle took place in Worcester Crematorium on Tuesday.
