Women and the Home Front during the First World War will be explored in a special conference to be held at Worcester University on September 5-7.

The University is hosting the Women's History Network Annual Conference, with a series of lectures and guest speakers.

The title of this year's conference is Home Fronts: Gender, War and Conflict.

Although by no means exclsuively geared to the First World War, that conflict will play a key role.

Not ony is the conference takling place shortly after the 100th anniversary of the start of the war, but the term Home Front itself was invented during the 1914-1918 conflict.

Key topics being discussed about what life was like on the Home Front for women are: food, domesticity, marriage, working lives, the treatment of outsiders, leisure, entertainment, and rembrance of the Home Front.

While trying to stimulate debate about the British Home Front, the conference will also be looking at other home fronts in other wars.
