A MOTHER has described fundraising for a cause close to her heart as a “great feeling”.

Mandy Edwards, of Badsey Lane, Evesham, recently collected £2,002 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the facility which saved the life of her daughter Bethan who has a rare heart condition.

The mother said: “Bethan has hypoplastic left heart syndrome, meaning she survives on only a half a heart.

“She spent the first six months of her life at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and if she had not had her operation at the facility she would not be here now.

“When Bethan was very, very poorly she was on a machine which costs a lot of money to switch on and run.

“At that time I made a pledge to myself to raise £1,000 per year for the hospital.”

The fundraiser has collected £12,500 in total.

This time she raised the money, which will be donated towards an extension of the intensive care unit and new equipment for the cardiac ward, through a craft fair and by selling fruit, jams and vegetables outside her home.
