RESIDENTS in Moreton are being warned to be alert following reports of people claiming to be on a criminal rehabilitation programme attempting to sell household goods door-to-door.
The callers have produced permits, which have been falsified as Pedlar’s Certificates are never issued to people with a criminal record.
Police have said anyone visited by these callers should avoid answering the door if possible and never let them into the house.
They may claim they had knocked on a neighbour’s door but with no response – in these cases police have said never to say they are on holiday or work late as they may use this information to later burgle the house.
Any information can be reported to police on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
