FITNESS fanatics have just under two weeks left to sign up for one of the highlights of Worcester’s running calendar.

More than 1,500 people are expected to take part in the Worcester full and half marathons and more than £25,000 could be raised for local charity St Richard's Hospice.

The 26.2 and 13.1-mile races, which are organised by Tempo Events, will take place on Sunday, April 12, but anyone still hoping to enter must do so by Sunday, April 5.

Rob Minton, race director at Tempo Events, said: “Each year this race reaches more and more people in Worcester and the surrounding area.

“It’s great to help raise much-needed funds for St Richard’s Hospice and also provide a fantastic running event for the city to get behind.”

Jodi Brandwood, community fundraiser at St Richard’s Hospice, added: “This is the fourth consecutive year as charity partner and each year the support for St Richard’s grows, with over £25,000 raised last year.

“We’re looking forward to 2015 being even bigger and better.”

The event has teamed up again with title sponsor Hewett Recruitment, a Worcestershire recruitment agency which has supported the runs since 2011.

Louise Hewett from the company said: “Each year the race has grown and we’re proud to be part of it on a larger scale.

“It’s a really great event for this city and we’re very much looking forward to continuing our sponsorship, and also be there to support everyone taking part on the day.”

The races start and finish at the Sixways stadium. Runners will take a “scenic, rural route” that heads out east from the city, with half-marathon runners completing one loop and full marathon runners two.

Both races start simultaneously at 9.30am and all finishers will receive a t-shirt and medal. Prizes are also up for grabs in a range of categories.
