YOUNGSTERS from a Worcester nursery will stand out from the crowd thanks to glow-in-the-dark jackets from Worcestershire County Council.

The children attending St John's Nursery at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Hall can be easily seen and will stay safe when they go out for a walk to the library or shops.

The fluorescent vests, provided free to the nursery by the county council, are easy for motorists, cyclists and other pedestrians to spot.

Joint owner of the nursery Sheila Jones said: "We are near the main roads and these vests make the children far more visible. The children know what they are for and it makes them very aware of road safety.

"We go to St John's Library on a regular basis and we take them to the local shops. Walking is good for a healthy way of life."

She said the nursery, which has 50 two to five-year-olds, contacted the county council about the vests and they were provided as part of the council's road safety drive.
