The search is on for tall athletes in Worcestershire and Herefordshire who could win sporting gold at London 2012.

With Great Britain hoping to field its largest-ever team at the Olympic fames, a wide-ranging search has been launched to unearth 16-25-year-old athletes who are capable of competing on the world stage.

UK Sport are looking for tall athletes to see if they can find those with the potential to be put on to fast-track Olympic development programmes to compete in rowing, handball and volleyball - and perhaps become the next Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent.

No experience in any of the sports is necessary, but good all-round athletes taller than 5ft 11in (180cm) for women, and 6ft 3in (190cm) for men could be potential winners.

UK Sport's performance consultant Chelsea Warr said: "With five-and-a-half years to go, the race is on to unearth hidden talent of the six foot-plus variety. We have a unique opportunity to pluck individuals from relative sporting obscurity and provide the opportunity of a lifetime.

"If you're exceptionally tall, a good all-round athlete and have the right stuff, it could be you."

Anybody interested must complete the athlete profile form at www.uksport.gov.uk by Friday, March 23.
