A DISABLED woman has begged to be moved out of her top-floor Worcester flat after nearly two years of having to crawl up and down two flights of stairs on her bottom.

Hayley Brown - who is in a wheelchair with crumbling discs in her back and also suffers with epilepsy - said she has been battling with Worcester Community Housing (WCH) ever since she moved into one of its flats in Randwick Drive, Warndon, in June 2005.

The 43-year-old said she has to crawl and shuffle up and down 28 concrete steps whenever she leaves her home because there is no lift in the block of flats.

WCH residents need 150 points to be eligible for a move, but Miss Brown, who is Registered Disabled, only has 44.

"I have got to go up and down the stairs on my bum," she said. "I have one of my sons in front of me and one at the back of me. It takes about 30 minutes and it hurts. I'm on Paracetamol and Codeine because of the pain."

Son Stevan Thomas (corr), aged 20, who until recently cared full-time for his mum, said it was dangerous.

"If she has an epileptic fit on the stairs and decides to collapse I'm not going to be able to stop that," he said. "She could break her arms or legs.

"They (WCH) suggested putting a lift or a stairlift in but there's no point because, where we live, it will get damaged within the first 24 hours."

Miss Brown said the she only moved into the two-bedroom flat because it was the only place offered to her at the time that could accommodate her, and sons Stevan and 18-year-old Richard.

"Once a fortnight I get out and that's all," she said. "It's not fair on me, and it's not fair on my boys."She said she is also worried about other peoples' safety because it takes two ambulance crews to get her out of the flat whenever she has an epileptic fit. "I need to be moved out of here as soon as possible," she said.

Community safety manager Bruce Mourby confirmed Miss Brown does not have enough points to move based on the medical records WCH hold at present, but after being contacted by the Worcester News he said "I will make sure her case is reviewed in light of this new information."
