THIS is the shocking scene left by “mindless” fly-tippers at a Worcester car park.

Piles of black bags, cardboard, broken furniture, fencing and even a fridge have been dumped on the site, leaving residents angry and upset.

Worcester City Council is sending civil enforcement officers to sift through the waste at Warndon Youth and Community Centre car park, off Shap Drive, and has promised strong action if the culprits can be identified.

The current state of squalor comes after rubbish left on the same site was set alight on Saturday, March 21, before firefighters extinguished the blaze using two hose reel jets.

Ernest Curtis, 75, whose garden backs onto the car park, said: “It is in a right mess.

“The offenders are mindless – they have got no thought for others at all.

“There are piles and piles of rubbish and it looks terrible.

“We are worried that kids may set fire to it again and the flames could spread to my trees and shed. Last time there was a fire it was only the high, corrugated fence which stopped the fire spreading to my property.

“I just want people to see what I have to put up with.”

He added that the council was “pretty good” at dealing with the problem but local people were dumping the waste “willy-nilly”.

A skip is operated by Worcester City Council at the car park on the first Saturday of every month from 8am to midday, allowing residents to dispose of household refuse for free.

But people have begun dumping waste when the skip is not present.

A spokesman for the local authority said that such fly-tipping was “not acceptable”.

She confirmed that civil enforcement officers would visit the site to try and identify the culprits with a view to enforcement action, while a mobile CCTV system may be used in the car park to ensure no further dumping takes place.
