A MAN has been handed a six-week prison sentence for possession of two types of class B drug, a court has heard.
Daniel Brown appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday (Monday, April 13) and pleaded guilty to possessing dihydrocodeine and zopiclone.
He was caught with the illegal substances in Worcester on Sunday, November 16.
Mark Soper, prosecuting, said: “He was searched by an officer and a number of tablets were found on his person.
“Others were prescription tablets but there were two zopiclone tablets and 9.86g of dihydrocodeine, all consistent with personal use.”
Joanne Outhwaite, defending, said: “He has made a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity and is currently serving an 18-month custodial sentence.
“Two different types of drug were found – relatively small amounts.
“He had been self-medicating for pain, stress and not being able to sleep, after being stabbed and quite seriously injured. He has anxiety due to the incident and has not dealt with it very well.”
Sue Dowty, chairman of the bench, said: “For these offences we are going to impose a six-week prison sentence that will to run concurrently with your existing sentence.”
She also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs and required Brown, of HMP Hewell in Redditch, to pay an £80 victim surcharge.
