General Infirmary: Week ending May 22: Patients admitted 24, patients discharged 21, in the House (May 22) 124 (including 42 wounded soldiers).
Battenhall Red Cross Hospital: Sir, - Will you kindly allow me space in your paper to say that, as I hear several kind persons are willing to send further gifts to Battenhall Hospital, any of the following would be most acceptable: Dairy produce, eggs, vegetables, fruit, chocolate, pipes, and tobacco, daily newspapers, outdoor games (such as bowls), ping pong set and table. A large meat safe is required, and a refrigerator, also some boot cupboards…Agatha Hindlip, Chairman House Committee, Hindlip Hall.
Bath and West Show Third Day: The weather was again brilliant for the third day of the Bath and West Show, and visitors from a distance began to arrive early. The Band of the Royal Marines began to play early, and demonstrations of grafting and pruning attracted the attention of several people, some young men taking a very keen interest in the lecture. At 4pm the attendance was 3,206, compared with 8,220 last year. Few seemed to be entering the ground at this hour, and it seemed as if the figure had reached the limit for the day.
The Yeomanry: Wild rumours have been in circulation concerning the Yeomanry, but these are as groundless as other alarming rumours about the city concerning other local units. We have reason to suppose the Regiment is not even at the Dardanelles, nor within several hundred miles of that place;
Malvern Man’s Commission: Mr. Reginald P Thompson, of Edith Lodge, Malvern, has been given a commission in the Special Reserve of Officers, and has been gazetted to the Third Battalion of the Somersetshire Light Infantry.
Death Follows a Fall: A woman named Fanny Williams (44), of Newport Street, fell down on Saturday night in Newport Street, and sustained a scalp wound. She was taken to the Infirmary and treated and later was taken home. She was attended by a doctor, but died on Monday. The Coroner has been informed of the facts.
