SILENCE will definitely be golden in the homes of two schoolgirls who will not utter a word for 48 hours to help fundraise for Georgie Gibbs.

Chatterboxes Alanah Levett and Phoebe Hall's vow of silence, which started this morning (Wednesday), has already raised £150.

The Nunnery Wood High School students decided to take on the challenge after being moved the appeal to help fund a life-changing operation for the three-year-old who has cerebral palsy.

Georgie's family is anxiously waiting to find out if she will receive an NHS-funded selective dorsal rhizotomy to help her walk unaided.

If she is turned down the family need to raise £60,000 to send her to America for the pioneering treatment but if they are successful the money will be used for aftercare which is not publicly funded.

Sally Jobling, mum of Alanah from Warndon Villages, said: "She is your typical 12-year-old, a real chatterbox and is always being told to be quiet.

"They are both really chatty so this is going to be quite some challenge.

"I used to work with Georgie's mum Clare and we visited her in Liverpool after she had Georgie so when the fundraising started up we all got involved.

"We went along to the carboot to get cupcakes and the girls made cakes themselves which is when Alanah decided she wanted to do something more."

Before holding the sponsored silence, the girls spoke to the high school's charities co-ordinator who agreed they could do it and the pair are wearing Help Georgie T-shirts donated by FC Sports Ltd.

Her mum added: "Alanah likes to do things to help people and this is great for us especially her little sister who was enjoying the peace and quiet this morning."

Georgie's mum Clare Gibbs wished the pair luck.

"The support and contribution we've had from everyone throughout Worcester by all ages has been amazing but particularly from those children who have some to us and donated their pocket money which is really, really touching or are holding events like Phoebe and Alanah.

"It's great that they are excited to do some fundraising and I've worked with Sally for a number of years and I know she is a chatterbox so if her daughter is anything like her it will be a hard job."
