THE birth of a “healthy and happy” baby saw a Malvern family reach an unlikely milestone.

Sophia Grace Hergest, 6lbs, 1.5oz, who was born at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, has a living great-great-grandmother, great-grandmother, grandmother and mother, meaning five generations of women are now present in the same family.

Sabrina Knight, 22, a carer from Barnards Green, gave birth to Sophia on Monday, November 23, at 9.30am, and is now at home looking after her first child.

She said: “It is quite amazing to have five generations of women in the same family.

“Lots of people have been telling us that to have five generations alive is rare.

“Sadly this won’t last for long, as Sophia’s great-great-grandmother, who used to be a midwife and loves children, is ill and won’t be around next Christmas.

“But I’m so grateful they got to meet each other recently – it was a special moment.”

Miss Knight added that Sophia is a “healthy and happy” baby who is getting a lot of attention - and even being “spoilt rotten” - by her family members.

Sophia’s female relatives are her mother Sabrina Knight, 22, grandmother Tina Knight, 40, great-grandmother Brenda Milner, 66, and great-great-grandmother Helen Pinchin, 93, who lives at Hastings Residential Care Home, where Miss Knight works.

Aunts Natasha Knight, 21, Dayna Knight, 19, and Summer Baetjer, six, have also been delighted with the arrival of their niece Sophia.
