THIS Christmas was extra special for six Worcestershire families as they welcomed their new arrivals into the world.

Six babies were delivered at Worcestershire Royal Hospital on Friday (December 25), making it a Christmas to remember.

Two boys were born at the Meadow Birth Centre while four babies arrived in the main delivery suite.

Annabel Wakelin, a doctor from Martin Hussingtree, and her husband Paul Wakelin, a landscape gardener, welcomed their new son Carwyn, who was born at 10.57am weighing 8lbs and 11oz.

Dr Wakelin, who has a three-year-old daughter Angharad, said: “It was extra special him arriving on Christmas morning.

“We thought he might come sometime around Christmas but I was five days early so it was a little surprising he was actually born on Christmas Day.

“My only craving during the pregnancy was Christmas pudding so maybe that was a sign.

“The Meadow Birth Centre was so lovely and calm and everything went as smoothly as it could.

“Carwyn is at home now getting lots of attention from the whole family and he is doing absolutely fine.”

Dr Wakelin, who got back home on Christmas evening for a turkey dinner, added it was an “emotional” moment holding Carwyn for the first time.

Another Christmas arrival was Anett Barto’s new baby boy Nicolas, who arrived five days late at 2.50pm weighing 7lbs and 11oz.

Miss Barto, 19, a student from Redditch, who had a water birth, said: “It was an amazing experience and very special.

“The labour lasted 12 hours but it was amazing.

“The midwives were perfect and helped me so much during the birth of my first child.

“It has been a very special Christmas.”
