PUPILS at Perdiswell Primary School have been given advice on dog safety and how to be dog smart.
Charlotte Paddock and Gemma Dingle from the Dogs Trust brought Shadow to the school to lead workshops for each year group.
The pupils found out how to act when meeting a new dog and what they should do if frightened by a dog.
They were given tips such as not to disturb a dog that was sleeping or eating, not to tease a dog and not to approach an animal if it's owner is not around.
Pupils were encouraged to be calm and friendly and were told if a strange dog approached them to stand still, look away and fold their arms.
The visit was part of the Dog's Trust's Be Dog Smart campaign.
Peter Jones, the school's assistant head, key stage 2, said: "All of the children went to a session.
"They all came out and said how much they had enjoyed it and so did the staff.
"It really was worthwhile.
"It was something that was offered and as a dog owner myself I think it's a really good idea that children know early on how to behave with dogs."
