ALL eyes will be on Worcester this weekend as the city stages a fantastic programme of events to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

There will be events and activities for all ages taking place all over the city, with the centrepiece of the celebrations a spectacular 90-boat flotilla on the Severn on Saturday afternoon.

Thousands of people are expected to line the riverbanks to cheer the flotilla as it passes and ensure the city lays on a birthday celebration fit for a queen.

Here's a rundown of what's happening:

SATURDAY, JUNE 1

10am The bells of Worcester Cathedral will begin to ring out in a full peal, expected to last until the early afternoon.

10.30am Runners will set off on either a 5K or 10K course for the Go Dad Run at Worcester Racecourse.

11am Retired members of the Malvern community can come along to a tea party at Cartwright Court in Victoria Road until 4pm. 

11.30am A colourful procession will start at Old Street, Upton-upon-Severn, ahead of a day-long carnival bonanza at the sports fields.

11.45am An exciting wakeboarding demonstration by Alec Foster and Rick Bailey will take place on the river Severn outside Browns at the Quay, Quay Street, Worcester.

Noon A Big Lunch event will be held on the village green in Hanley Swan.

12.30pm Bands lining the banks of the river Severn in Worcester will begin to play before the flotilla is officially launched.

1pm  Olympic rower Zac Purchase MBE will officially launch a 90-boat flotilla from South Quay, Worcester, accompanied by canon fire and a rendition of the National Anthem by the West Mercia Police band.

1pm The 4 Shires Festival will kick off in the St Andrew’s Shopping Centre, Droitwich, featuring music from local bands and, at 7.30pm, a Queen tribute act.

1pm Madresfield Court, near Malvern, will officially open its annual fete, which is this year in honour of the Queen.

1.50pm Human-powered boa ts turn and begin to make their way back up the Severn to finish the parade at North Quay, near Worcester Rowing Club.

2pm Tea on the Green for the Queen will be held at St John’s Church, Bromyard Road, Worcester, until 4pm.

2pm Residents will be welcomed to DG Den, in Gresham Road, Dines Green, Worcester, to enjoy a smoothie bar, a human fruit machine, sports and face painting, until 4pm.

2.30pm Entertainment will begin at The Hive in Worcester, including musical performances, a special celebratory film, royal story time and limited edition cakes. Activities will finish at around 5pm.

3pm 90-year-olds from across Worcestershire will arrive at the city’s Guildhall to enjoy an exclusive Tea for the Queen party.

7pm A Queen’s 90th Birthday Concert, featuring the Kidderminster Valentines choir, will take place at Hartlebury Castle, near Kidderminster.

SUNDAY, JUNE 12

9.30am The congregation of St Gabriel’s Church, Hanley Swan, will be treated to a special service to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

10am A street party will begin in Yarrow Close, Worcester, lasting until 6pm.

10.30am A service will be held at Pershore Abbey, attended by local dignitaries including Harriett Baldwin MP and a representative of the Worcestershire Lieutenancy. 

11.30am Residents of Barbel Crescent, Worcester, will begin enjoying a street party, which will run until 4pm.

Noon A community street party will get underway in Evesham’s Market Square, and will run until 4pm.

Noon  The community of Chubb Close, Worcester, will enjoy a street party until 9.30pm.

Noon  Redfern Avenue, in Worcester, will gather until 4pm for a street party for the Queen.

Noon Residents of Meadow Road, in Worcester, will mark the milestone with events running throughout the day until 11pm.

2pm  A tea party will begin at Pershore’s Abbey Park, featuring music from the Academy Swing Band until 4.30pm.

4pm  An impressive civic service will take place at Worcester Cathedral, including a concert by 90 school children and the cathedral choir.

4pm A tea party for the Queen will be held at St Mary’s Church in Hanley Castle.

6pm A royal–themed variety performance will kick off at St Mary’s Church in Hanley Castle, featuring music from the church scratch choir.
