BURGER lovers have been getting their tastebuds around a special made just for Worcester - gobbling up almost 200 in just a week.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) opened its doors on Monday, May 30 in the Food Quarter at CrownGate Shopping Centre.

In its first week it sold 147 of its Bloody Mary Burger, created just for the city's branch, and now it can add a few more to that number after the Worcester News taste tested a few.

GBK Head of Food Tim Molema has crafted the exclusive burger, paying homage to Worcestershire sauce, famously made in Worcester since 1837.

The limited edition burger is made up of a 6oz Cajun dusted beef patty, bloody Mary ketchup, American cheese, jalapenos, baconnaise and crispy onions.

GBK Marketing Manager, Laura Pettingale, said: “We wanted to create something special with one of Worcester’s most famous export to mark GBK opening in the city.

"We can’t wait to hear what burger fans think of The Bloody Mary Burger and hope they enjoy it as much as we love the famous sauce.”

GBK Worcester was the chain's 72nd restaurant to open, following Southampton and Birmingham earlier this year, creating 30 jobs.

The Bloody Mary Burger is available at GBK Worcester until Thursday, June 30 costing £9.45.

Worcester News:

The burger is an eye-watering treat with a local edge. The Worcestershire sauce is a really good addition and, unlike many adjustments to food, this combination really works. The burger has a kick to it but avoids being too spicy.

The meat is nicely cooked, to a medium- medium rare level and it blends superbly with the Bloody Mary ketchup and the Worcestershire sauce. If the burger wasn’t enough, a selection of great sides are also on offer, with the larger chips a personal favourite over the fries.

It was a fitting tribute to the iconic sauce of Worcestershire.

Worcester News:

This is my first time experience of a GBK burger and I had the Bloody Mary with a classic homemade and pan fried bean patty vegetarian burger patty.

I took my first bite and, I have to say, wow, I got a warm spicy kick from it.

It comes in a nice lightly chargrilled sesame seeded bap which adds to the mouth-watering experience.

There are really good flavours in this burger with the crisp lettuce and juicy slices of tomato.

I found this burger to be a good size and very filling.

I also had some skinny French fries which were also crisp and not too salty, so for me a perfect experience of a vegetarian burger option.
