A MAN has been vindicated in his campaign to highlight a ‘dangerous’ piece of metalwork jutting out of the River Severn.
Mike Arnold, from Diglis, Worcester, claims the decision to place a buoy over the ironwork proves it is a serious hazard.
Mr Arnold, a former contractor, first complained about it in 2013 and has been calling for its removal ever since.
The local says the redundant mooring, opposite Diglis Hotel, poses a risk to children who play on the railings.
He also think a vessel or another large object has collided with the metal and changed its shape.
Mr Arnold said: “The Canal and River Trust have placed a buoy in place over the offending wreckage.
“At least it cannot now be denied that the submerged ironwork is not also a serious hazard to rivercraft.
“This should have been a no brainer.”
The city council previously cut away as much of the metal as they could in June 2015 as a good-will gesture to Mr Arnold, despite not being responsible for its removal.
A Canal & River Trust spokesperson said: “The submerged metalwork in the River Severn at Diglis is outside of the navigable channel.
"While we don’t think it’s a significant risk to any boaters, we’ve put a buoy marking its position just in case.”
