VOLUNTEERS planted hundreds of free trees in a local sports field.
Most of the 420 trees given to Upton Town Council by The Woodland Trust were planted on Wednesday, November 16.
About 15 people, including members of the public and Upton in Bloom volunteers, joined their local police officer for the event.
A planting preparation day was held on Tuesday, November 15, where the tree positions were marked out.
Jackie Surtees, chairman of Upton in Bloom, said: "We planted two lengths of hedging and a small copse at the back of the sports field.
"It was a good day and everyone enjoyed themselves. The rest of the trees are going on the picnic area by the bridge.
"We will also be filling in various hedges at the side of the sports field."
